Ants and Plants
If you see ants on your plants, it’s probably because they’re eating the secretions (called honeydew) left by other bugs.
Checking Moisture
A good guide to see if your plant needs water is to put your finger 1-2 inches into the soil to check for moisture.
Over watering
Perhaps the biggest mistake people make is overwatering plants. Roots need a balabce between moisture and air. Overwatering literally drowns the plant.
Low Light
For low light areas, use a White Flag plant, Chinese Evergreen, or Mother-In-Laws Tongue.
Easy Plant for the novice
For the novice, try a Pothos plant, they’re easy to grow.
Ficus Dropping leaves?
There are now new varieties of indoor Ficus trees that don’t drop leaves as easily. Ask your local nursery if they carry them.
Dracaenas
Most problems people have with Dracaenas is over-watering, which will result in yellow leaves.
Easy Palm
If you like palms, try a Kentia palm, they’re easy to grow under low or bright light.
Ficus = Fussy
Ficus trees dislike being moved, but if you do, try to keep them in the same amount of light or they may drop some leaves.
Interesting Indoor Plant
Chinese Evergreen has variegated foliage and is an excellent houseplant.
Easy Indoor Color
An easy to grow flowering indoor succulent are Kalanchoes, they’ll bloom for about two months, and come in a variety of colors.
Long-lasting Color
Bromeliads are easy to grow, and will bloom for a couple months in your home, but be careful not to over water them.
Houseplants and Air
Indoor air can be up to 100 times more polluted than outdoor air, having houseplants will clean the air.
Protecting your Carpets
To protect carpets and floors, it’s advisable to use plastic saucers, not ceramic ones due to condensation. Also for added protection use protecto-mats under the saucer.
Picking Fertilizer
When feeding green plants, use a balanced fertilizer that includes nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium.
When are your Plants most hungry ?
Interior plants need very little fertilizer during the fall and winter season.
Plants can over-eat too
When feeding your plants use as directed as over fertilizing can hurt or kill your plants.
